The Backstory

Before the Chair.

Clark Russell was born and raised in the small town of Kermit, Texas, where his artistic spirit and creative vision began to take shape at an early age. Before pursuing a career in the beauty industry, Clark proudly served in the United States Navy during the First Gulf War, traveling throughout the world and gaining a deep appreciation for the diverse cultures, traditions, and ethnicities he encountered along the way.

After completing his military service, Clark built a life with his partner, John Clark, and on what seemed like a spontaneous decision, enrolled in cosmetology school — a choice that would ultimately define his future. What began as a new career path quickly evolved into a lifelong passion and a remarkable professional journey.

Over the years, Clark developed a reputation for his ability to work with clients of every background, ethnicity, and lifestyle, creating customized looks that enhanced confidence, beauty, and personal style. His unique understanding of diverse hair textures, facial structures, and beauty aesthetics allowed him to transcend traditional boundaries within the industry.

Often described as the “Van Gogh of avant-garde hair design and beauty artistry,” a distinction once echoed by Eve Branson, mother of Sir Richard Branson, Clark Russell has spent more than three decades shaping the beauty industry as an educator, master colorist, precision cutter, award-winning avant-garde hairstylist, and celebrity beauty expert. Philanthropy 

The JWC Parkinson’s Foundation was founded by Clark Russell in honor of his late husband, John Winston Clark, a disabled U.S. veteran who courageously battled Parkinson’s disease until his passing on July 24, 2025. Throughout John’s journey, Clark served as his primary caregiver, advocate, and partner, gaining firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by individuals and families living with Parkinson’s and other neurological disorders. Together they explored traditional and alternative approaches to care, including wellness-based therapies, stem cell treatments, holistic medicine, and innovative strategies designed to improve quality of life and preserve dignity for those affected by the disease.

Established to carry forward John’s vision and legacy, the JWC Parkinson’s Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness, advancing education, supporting research, and providing resources for individuals and families impacted by Parkinson’s disease. A cornerstone of the foundations’ mission is the development of wellness centers throughout the United States, designed to serve veterans, Parkinson’s patients, caregivers, and families by connecting them with medical resources, support services, educational programs, financial assistance, wellness initiatives, and community-based care. The foundation seeks to bridge gaps in healthcare access while empowering individuals to live healthier, fuller lives through both conventional and emerging treatment options.

John Winston Clark’s legacy extends beyond his personal battle with Parkinson’s. His belief in exploring innovative therapies, including stem cell research and alternative medicine, inspired a broader conversation about the future of neurological care. His journey is the subject of the upcoming documentary, CellMan, currently in post-production and slated for release in 2028. The film chronicles John’s fight against Parkinson’s disease, his pursuit of groundbreaking treatments, and the unwavering commitment he and Clark shared to improving the lives of others facing similar challenges.
